1. I was speaking to an acquaintance from Canada. He has a mixed blood line of Chinese, Korean, and Japanese. His parents will soon be relocating to Singapore for work purposes, and he’ll tag along.
2. He told me that his friends thought that Singapore is a “farming country”. He didn’t know who is “Lee Kuan Yew”. He also said Singapore is too small “to play a role in the global stage” or “for other countries to take it seriously”. He added that Singapore is “nothing”.
3. I always enjoy talking to foreigners and asking them for their views on Singapore. Sometimes a little bit of thinking on our part would be good – what is Singapore? Who are we? And of course many other questions worth thinking about.
